Conservation Program
At Nalingkwe we are committed to conserving both wildlife and the natural environment, and are therefore currently working in conjunction with conservation agencies on a project to establish breeding programs for endangered species, such as “The African Wild Dog” and “White Lion”.
White Lion
The white lion is one of nature’s glorious rarities, a pearl amidst the dappling gold of the African plains. However, their survival relies upon the ongoing of the bloodline, something nature alone cannot achieve. At Nalingkwe our aim is to secure a pair of breeding white lion in the reserve, where they will be happy to bring up their young and hopefully guarantee the continuation of one of the rarest and most beautiful creatures on earth. The public will have the opportunity to view these majestic beasts in their natural habitat, and experience Africa as only few have known it. Because of the importance of this project, we will be allotting a large area of the reserve solely for this purpose.
African Wild Dog
The wild dog is one of the unsung and for the most part unknown heroes of the African plains, a species that has dwindled in number in recent years not only due to disease, but man’s ignorance and firm, unyielding hand. Surprising, considering that the wild dog’s devotion to its family group is not much different to the loyalty we humans feel for our own families. The world of the near-extinct wild dog of the bush is not as different from our own as we might dare to imagine.
Here at Nalingkwe, we feel that we owe the wild dog a second chance, an opportunity to repopulate their ancestral plains. We intend to secure a pack of these animals on our reserve, allowing them to live free of disease and fear of man, and breed freely as their ancestors did years before. Once we have established a surplus of breeding dogs we will be able to provide other suitable game farms and reserves with healthy animals so that they too can join in with the battle to save one of the most majestic creatures Africa has to offer.
